ok let’s talk a little about how not to encourage reposting. even if you don’t repost yourself and find it bad, you should read this.
- if you see something that looks like an edit on weheartit just don’t share it on your tumblr. i know you don’t take the source for it but let me get this straight: most of what’s on weheartit comes from tumblr. sharing from there is an indirect reposting - it’s still bad so please don’t (◡‿◡✿)
- look at the source before reblogging.- weheartit is not a reliable source :( you can’t do much about it but hey you can always just scroll down and not reblog it. a simple google search by image will take you to the original post if you really want it on your blog. let’s not encourage this whole indirect repost through weheartit (◕‿◕✿)
- hey you wanna know what’s cool and only takes a few seconds? when you see an awesome edit/gif/drawing look for a watermark. not everyone puts them on their work but some people do. example: let’s say you find this watermark on a photo you want to reblog: Ok cool so this is the person who worked their butt off to make that. now let’s take a look at the source. they match? well that’s good, go ahead and reblog it. in my case this is the source: uh oh so we have to deal with a reposter *. hey it’s not that bad if they at least say they don’t take credit for it in the caption or even better, they link to the original poster. that’s kinda tolerable.. but if they don’t say anything, and even claim that as their own.. (⊙‿⊙✿); well now what can you do? the easiest thing you can do is scroll past and don’t reblog that - don’t give the reposter the notes they don’t deserve. i know you want it on your blog, but as i said before, a simple google search by image and bam you’ll find the original post. now now, let’s see what more you can do. well you can let the owner know. using my example, PersonWhoMadeTheEdit.tumblr.com/ask and yay now they know their work has been reposted. they’ll do something about it. or let the stealer know what you discovered, they might take it down. you can go even further, i found here how to report these to the staff.
- sometimes a really bad quality of the image might indicate it’s a repost. not always, but there are cases. keep it in mind.
my point is, let’s just not encourage reposting. you might do it even if you don’t realize so let’s not give them notes, let’s not reblog them. it obviously won’t stop reposting but hey it’s a start. (✿◠‿◠)
sorry but this had to be said.
*about the watermark thing, i’m not very sure what happens when someone changes their url - if the source changes too. that might me a little problem, so sorry for any inconveniences.
